Company description:

Sim2Learn is a wholly owned Irish company with its headquarters based in Galway. Sim2Learn’s driver training model is the first 360 approach to driver training in Ireland – to improve driver safety and enhance driver skills leading to improved road safety. The company’s mission is to educate by using state of the art simulators, theory testing, health & safety courses and on-the road training. To deliver the on-the road training Sim2Learn have partnered with Approved Driving Instructors who are full permit holders. Sim2Learn are currently going through the FETAC Quality Assurance approval process and plan to have full accreditation in the coming weeks.

Drivers can learn basic and advanced driving skills in a safe, professional and unique environment not currently available in the Irish market. These unique features also allow the user to develop night-driving skills and to test their skill using the very latest in hazard perception software. On completing a course of training, the user is provided with an unbiased completion certificate that has been independently issued from achievements on the simulator.

The Sim2Learn approach provides the learner driver with the opportunity to learn in a safe and stress-free environment. It will also provide the learner driver with all the confidence and technical driving skills required prior to ‘on-the-road’ tuition with a certified Driving Instructor. Sim2Learn see their approach as being in line with key elements of the Irish Road Safety Strategy.

Sim2Learn’s driving simulators use the latest in European driving simulator technology, to bring driver training to Ireland. Best practice countries in the EU have achieved a reduction to 50 deaths per million and are already committed to improving this position by a further 20%. Countries achieving best practice have reduced road deaths to 50 per million of population per year. In the EU, these counties are The Netherlands, Finland, Sweden and Norway. In these countries simulated driver education is an integral part of their strategy.

With the introduction of Driver CPC and training of driver instructors in the coming months Sim2Learn will be in a position to ensure that this rollout is successful and a high standard is achieved at all times. The Primary causes of road collisions, deaths and injuries in Ireland include speed inappropriate for, or inconsistent with, the prevailing circumstances or driving conditions, impaired driving through alcohol, drugs or fatigue, failure to use or properly use seatbelts and child safety restraints and unsafe behaviour towards vulnerable road users.1International consensus on road safety is built around the Four Es – Education, Enforcement, Engineering and Evaluation. Therefore, the Sim2Learn approach to driver education is pivotal to supporting this strategy.

The Sim2Learn approach to learning raises awareness of road safety by imparting knowledge and developing an understanding of the risks with a view to changing attitudes and behaviour at individual, community and organisational levels. In the coming months Sim2Learn will have facilities opened in Dublin, Galway, Cork, Sligo, Athlone, Limerick, Letterkenny and Waterford.
