VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art & The George Bernard Shaw Theatre is a dynamic new multi-disciplinary arts facility presenting the best of local, national and international work in the visual and performing arts. The centre has won numerous awards including the RIAI (Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland) Award 2010 for Best Cultural Building in Ireland.
VISUAL boasts four principal exhibition spaces, and the Main Gallery is recognised as Ireland’s largest and most spectacular space for presenting contemporary art. Since the opening in September 2009 the visual arts programme has included leading Irish and International artists.
The George Bernard Shaw Theatre, named after the renowned Irish playwright who had strong Carlow connections, is a 290 seat high-spec performance space. The performing arts programme includes some of Ireland’s leading theatre production companies such as The Abbey Theatre, Project Arts Centre, Lane Productions, Barabbas and Gúna Nua in addition to a wide variety of live music, film, comedy, opera and dance from local, national and international performers.
The arts centre also houses the award-winning and highly popular restaurant, Lennons @ VISUAL, where patrons can avail of a full menu with morning coffee and lunch daily, and dinner on weekends and selected weekdays.
